Understand your estimate

How the calculation works

Monthly cost = vehicles × (finance or rental + maintenance + insurance) + shared overheads. Annual cost = monthly cost × 12.

A worked example

25 vehicles at £565 each per month cost £14,125. Add £1,500 in shared overheads for £15,625 per month, or £187,500 per year.

What to allow for

  • All vehicles use the same average monthly cost. Use weighted averages for a mixed fleet.
  • Fuel, wages, depreciation, tax and unexpected repairs are only included if you add them to your inputs. Costs are assumed to stay the same for 12 months.

Useful questions

Should I enter annual insurance?

Divide an annual premium by 12 first. Every cost field on this calculator uses monthly figures.

Can I include fuel?

Yes. Estimate your whole fleet’s monthly fuel costs separately and include them in shared overheads. Avoid counting them twice.
